Primerjata dva stola. Plača je v petek. Najprej hoče izmeriti kot. Zmotilo ga je in je zaprl zavihek. Nič od tega ni zavrnitev. So premori.

Beseda ljudi zmede, zato jo velja natančno opredeliti.

To res dvigne število ogledov.

Kako izgleda osnovni potek

Pošteni omejitvi: avtomatizacija ojači resnično zanimanje, ne more ga ustvariti. To ujame pristno omahovanje.

What Is Product Abandonment Email Automation

Product abandonment email automation is a flow that sends a follow-up message to an identified shopper who viewed a specific product page but didn’t add it to their cart or buy it. The trigger is a product view, the message shows that exact product, and it goes out automatically within a few hours. It sits between browse abandonment (someone browsed anything) and cart abandonment (someone added to cart), catching shoppers who showed clear interest in one item and then left. For a store spending real money on ads, it’s one of the cheapest ways to get a second chance at visitors you already paid for.

The traffic you paid for is mostly leaving silently

If your store does €30,000-100,000 a month, you already know the uncomfortable arithmetic. Most sessions end without a purchase. A big share of visitors don’t even add anything to a cart, so your cart recovery emails never touch them. They click your Meta ad, land on a product page, read the description, maybe check the reviews, and leave. You paid for that click. You’ll probably pay again to bring the same person back through retargeting.

The frustrating part is that these aren’t cold visitors. Someone who spent 90 seconds on your €85 leather sneaker page is telling you something. They’re just not telling it to anyone who can act on it — unless you have a flow listening.

Why more ads and more discounts don’t fix this

The default reaction to soft sales is to push harder on acquisition: raise the ad budget, run another 15% off promotion. Both have real costs. Ad CPMs keep climbing, so buying the same visitor back through retargeting eats margin twice. Sitewide discounts train customers to wait for the next code and quietly cut your contribution margin on orders that would have happened anyway.

Neither approach addresses the actual leak: interested shoppers who left before adding to cart and never heard from you again. A product abandonment email reaches them for close to zero marginal cost, at the moment their interest is still warm, without touching your prices.

Where the money actually leaks: a quick calculation

Illustrative numbers, not a benchmark — plug in your own. Say your store gets 20,000 sessions a month and 8% of visitors view a product page while being identifiable (they’ve subscribed before, or clicked through from an email). That’s 1,600 people a month your platform can recognize on a product page. If only a quarter of them abandon the product without carting it, that’s 400 warm, reachable shoppers.

Send them a product abandonment email. If the flow converts even a small fraction of them at your €70 average order value, you’re looking at meaningful monthly revenue from a flow you built once. Compare that to what 400 high-intent retargeting clicks would cost you on Meta right now. The point isn’t the exact number — it’s that this segment currently produces €0 for most stores.

How to set it up, in order

  1. Check your identification rate first. The flow only reaches people your platform can recognize — subscribers, past customers, people who clicked an email. If your list is tiny, fix your welcome signup first; product abandonment scales with list size.
  2. Build one email, not a sequence. Start with a single message. You can add a second touch later once you see it working — how many product abandonment emails to send is a question for week three, not day one.
  3. Set exclusions before launch. Exclude anyone who added to cart (they belong in cart recovery), anyone who purchased, and anyone already in another active flow. Skipping this step is how stores end up sending three emails about the same product in one evening.
  4. Launch, wait two weeks, then look at the numbers. Don’t touch subject lines or timing until you have enough sends to judge.

What you don’t need yet: SMS, web push, A/B tests, or category-specific versions. All useful later, all a distraction on day one.

The exact flow, spelled out

  • Trigger: viewed a specific product page, no add-to-cart within the same session.
  • Segment: identified contacts only; exclude buyers of that product, active carts, and contacts who received this flow in the last 14 days.
  • Delay: 2-6 hours after the view. Same-day, while intent is warm — the reasoning behind the window is covered in when to send a product abandonment email.
  • Channel: email. Add SMS or push only after email proves itself.
  • Message: the product image, name and price pulled in dynamically, one line of the product’s strongest benefit, a review snippet if you have them, and a single button back to the product page. No discount.
  • Goal: get the shopper back to the product page; measure placed orders attributed to the flow.

What this looks like for a real store

Take a store selling home fitness gear. A visitor reads the page for a €240 adjustable dumbbell set, scrolls the reviews, and leaves. Four hours later she gets: “Still thinking about the PowerSet 24?” — photo, price, one line on the space-saving design, a five-star review quote, and a button. No code, no countdown. If she was comparing it against a competitor’s set, this email puts your product back on top of her inbox during the exact evening she’s deciding.

Illustrative math: at 400 triggered sends a month, a 45% open rate and a 2% flow conversion rate would mean 8 extra orders — about €1,900 a month at that price point. Those specific percentages are invented for the example; your product price, list quality and copy will move them up or down.

The four numbers that tell you if it’s working

  • Revenue per recipient — the cleanest single measure of the flow; compare it to your campaign emails.
  • Flow conversion rate — orders placed by people who received the email.
  • Trigger volume — how many contacts enter the flow monthly; if it’s low, your identification rate is the bottleneck, not the email.
  • Unsubscribe rate on the flow — above roughly 1% suggests your timing or frequency feels pushy.

How to attribute the revenue cleanly is its own topic — see how to track revenue from product abandonment.

Setting it up in Omnisend

I ignored email marketing for years — it looked like the spam folder’s natural habitat. Rising ad costs on my own stores changed my mind, and after testing Klaviyo and Omnisend I settled on Omnisend because I could build and adjust flows myself without a retainer.

In Omnisend, this is the “Product abandonment” preset flow: the product-view trigger, the dynamic product block, and the delay step are already wired, so the real work is writing your one benefit line and setting the exclusion filters. Two honest caveats. The flow needs your store properly connected so product-view events actually fire — verify that with a test order before trusting the data. And it can only email people it can identify; a store with 800 subscribers will see modest trigger volume no matter how good the email is. It also won’t rescue a product that’s overpriced or has three bad reviews on top — automation multiplies interest, it doesn’t create it.

Your next step

Before building anything, open your analytics and check one number: how many product-page sessions ended without an add-to-cart last month. That’s the size of your leak. If it’s in the thousands, build the single-email version of this flow this week — and if you’re unsure whether this or browse abandonment fits your store better, read the difference between product and browse abandonment first.
