Kje denar dejansko odteka

  2. Neposredno odgovorite na vprašanja iz primerjave. Kupci, ki primerjajo cene, imajo v glavi kontrolni seznam: garancija, dostava, vračila, podpora, življenjska doba, skupni strošek skozi čas. Poskrbite, da so ti odgovorjeni, preden morajo vprašati. Ta kontrolni seznam razložim v na katera vprašanja mora kupec dobiti odgovor, preden kupi dražji izdelek.

(Ponazoritveni primer — prilagodite podrobnosti svojemu izdelku in temu, kar vas resnično razlikuje.)

Spremljajte to skozi četrtletje, ne teden. Cikli dražjih izdelkov so počasni in raven prvi štirinajst dni vam pove skoraj nič.

What to Do When High-Ticket Customers Compare Your Store With Cheaper Competitors

When a high-ticket customer tells you they found the same thing cheaper somewhere else, the worst move is to drop your price on the spot. Do that and you’ve just confirmed their suspicion that your number was soft to begin with. The better response is to change what they’re comparing. Most price comparisons on expensive products aren’t really about price — they’re about a buyer who can’t yet see the difference between two options and is falling back on the one number they can read. Your job, mostly through your follow-up emails and messages, is to make the rest of the value visible before the comparison hardens into a decision. This page is about how to do that: what to say, when to say it, and what to automate so it happens on its own.

Why “you’re more expensive” usually means “I can’t tell the difference yet”

Picture the buyer’s screen. They’ve got four tabs open, three of them showing something that looks roughly like your product, one of them showing yours at a higher price. From where they sit, the photos are similar, the spec bullets are similar, and the only field that clearly differs is the price. Of course they anchor on it. It’s the only thing they can compare with confidence.

That’s the real situation. The customer isn’t cheap or unserious. They’re under-informed, and price is the default tiebreaker when everything else looks the same. So the question is not “how do I defend my price” but “what does this buyer not yet know that would make the cheaper option look like a different, lesser thing?”

For a €1,800 sofa, that might be the frame warranty, the foam density, or the fact that you deliver into the room and take the old one away. For a €900 bike, it’s the fit service and the free first tune-up. None of that fits in a price field. All of it changes the comparison — if the buyer ever sees it.

Why cutting your price is the expensive fix

The reflex is to match or beat the cheaper store. It feels responsive. It’s usually the most costly thing you can do, for two reasons.

First, you spend margin on someone who might have bought anyway. Plenty of comparison shoppers are testing whether you’ll blink, not seriously planning to leave. Blink once and you’ve trained that buyer — and, over time, a slice of your audience — to open with an objection because it works.

Second, a discount on a premium product quietly damages the product. If €1,800 becomes €1,500 the moment someone pushes, the buyer’s takeaway is that the real price was €1,500 and you tried it on. That erodes exactly the confidence a high-ticket purchase depends on. There are ways to add urgency or sweeten a deal without slashing the sticker — I get into that in how to create urgency without cheapening a premium product — but the discount reflex itself is the trap.

Where the money actually leaks

The leak isn’t the moment someone asks for a discount. It’s the silence before it. A buyer compares you against a cheaper store, finds nothing that justifies the gap, and simply closes the tab. No email, no objection, no chance to respond. You never even know it happened.

Run the rough math on your own store. Say 100 people look at a €1,200 product this month and 3 buy. If even 10 of the other 97 left specifically because they couldn’t see why you cost more than the cheaper listing they found, that’s a potential €12,000 sitting in a gap you could partly close with better follow-up. The number’s illustrative, but the shape is real: for expensive products, most of the loss is quiet, and it happens in the days after the visit, not during it.

That’s the window automation is built for.

The practical fix: reframe the comparison before it’s final

Assume the comparison is happening whether or not the buyer tells you. Build your follow-up to win it. In order of importance:

  1. Name the difference in plain terms. Don’t say “premium quality.” Say what’s actually different: “Our frames are kiln-dried hardwood with a 15-year warranty; most sofas at this price use engineered board rated for five.” Specifics beat adjectives every time. If you don’t know what makes you genuinely different, that’s the first problem to fix, not the follow-up.
  2. Answer the comparison questions directly. Buyers comparing prices are running a checklist in their heads: warranty, delivery, returns, support, longevity, total cost over time. Get those answered before they have to ask. I lay out that checklist in what questions must be answered before a customer buys a high-ticket product.
  3. Shift from price to total cost. A cheaper product that fails in two years isn’t cheaper. Say so, honestly and without scaremongering — replacement cost, downtime, the hassle of a bad return process with an unknown seller.
  4. Bring in proof you can’t fake. Reviews and case studies do the arguing for you, because they come from other buyers, not your marketing. That’s a big enough lever that it has its own guide: how reviews and case studies move expensive products closer to purchase.
  5. Address financing plainly if it’s on the table. Sometimes “too expensive” means “too expensive this month,” not “not worth it.” A payment option can reframe the whole comparison. There’s a trust angle to that, covered in building trust after a shopper views financing or payment options.

Notice what’s not on the list: begging, urgency gimmicks, and a coupon.

What to automate

You can’t send all this by hand for every shopper who wanders off comparing. Set it up once.

  • Trigger: someone views a high-ticket product page (or a category) two or more times, or lands on your page from a comparison-style search, and is on your list.
  • Segment: high-intent, not-yet-purchased, viewing products above your high-ticket threshold. Keep casual browsers out of this flow so you don’t over-message low-intent traffic.
  • Timing: first message within a day while the tabs are still warm; then space the rest over a week or two, because expensive decisions don’t close in an afternoon. High-value journeys run longer than standard flows — the reasoning is in why high-value products need a longer automated customer journey.
  • Channel: mostly email, since this needs room to explain. A short SMS can nudge if you have consent and the moment’s right.
  • Content per message: email one names the real differences; a later one leads with a review or case study; another handles total cost or financing. One idea per message, not a wall.
  • Goal: move the buyer from “yours is more expensive” to “yours is different, and here’s why the gap makes sense.”

The point is to answer the comparison the buyer is already running silently, before they finish it in the cheaper store’s favor.

A store example

Say you sell espresso machines. A shopper views your €1,600 model twice, then goes quiet. A generic store sends “Still thinking? Here’s 10% off.” You send something else.

Email one, next morning: a plain rundown of what the price buys — a commercial-grade boiler, a two-year on-site warranty, a phone number that reaches a real person who knows the machine. Email two, three days later: a short story from a café owner who switched from a cheaper home unit that died in eight months, with photos. Email three, a few days after: a note on the total cost of ownership, including that your descaling service is included and the cheaper machines usually aren’t serviceable at all.

No discount anywhere. By email three, the €1,200 machine the buyer was eyeing doesn’t look like the same product minus €400. It looks like a different, riskier purchase. That’s the whole game. (Illustrative example — adapt the specifics to your own product and what genuinely sets it apart.)

How to measure whether it’s working

  • View-to-purchase rate for people who enter this flow versus those who don’t. This is the number that matters most.
  • Reply and click behavior on the “here’s the difference” email — are people engaging with the value message, or ignoring it?
  • Discount requests trending down over time as buyers get their answers before they think to ask.
  • Time from first view to purchase. If it shortens, your follow-up is resolving the comparison faster.

Watch these over a quarter, not a week. High-ticket cycles are slow, and a flat first fortnight tells you almost nothing.

Where Omnisend fits

Everything above is content and timing — you could run it in any decent email tool. I use Omnisend in my own stores because the parts that make this flow work are quick to set up there: a trigger on repeat views of specific high-value products, a segment that filters for price threshold and non-purchase, and a sequence that spaces messages over days instead of hours. Testing it against Klaviyo, I found the segment and automation building easier to manage without a specialist, which matters when you’re a small team.

Honestly, the tool won’t tell you what makes your product worth more — that’s your work, and it’s the part that actually wins the comparison. Omnisend is an affiliate partner of Shopimation; I recommend it from daily use, and the free tier is enough to build and test this flow on one product before you roll it out.

Your next step

Open your best-selling expensive product and write down, in plain words, the three things that genuinely make it worth more than the cheapest alternative online. If you can’t fill all three, that gap is your real problem — fix it before the follow-up. Once you can, build the comparison-response flow around those three points, and when you’re ready to reinforce it with outside proof, move on to how reviews and case studies move expensive products closer to purchase.
