Izdelki so bili ukinjeni. Cene so se premaknile. Cele kategorije so bile prestrukturirane.

Plast 2 — Izključitvena in založna pravila

Plast 3 — Izrisana vsebina in nadzor

Zdaj poglejte, kaj dejansko gre v svet.

Do sredine poletja odprtosti še vedno kažejo 40 % in več, nadzorna plošča izgleda v redu.

Nobenega novega orodja, nobene ponovne gradnje.

How to Audit Automated Messages in a Fast-Changing Catalog

Auditing automated messages in a catalog that changes daily means checking, on a schedule, that every live flow still sends accurate, in-stock, on-brand content — because the flows were built against a catalog that no longer exists. You wrote those emails once; the catalog has changed a thousand times since. A practical audit walks four layers in order: the data feeding the messages, the exclusion and stock rules, the rendered content itself, and the numbers that reveal silent failure. Run a light version weekly and a deep version monthly, and you catch the dead links, sold-out recommendations, and broken layouts before your customers do. This page is the walkthrough; each layer links to the deeper fix.

Why a working flow quietly rots

Here’s the trap with automation: it keeps running perfectly even when it’s wrong. A flow you built in March still fires flawlessly in July — same trigger, same timing, same template. What’s changed underneath is everything the template pulls from. Products got discontinued. Prices moved. Whole categories were restructured. Half the “recently viewed” items in your browse-abandonment flow now 404.

Nobody gets an alert for this. The automation doesn’t know a product died; it just renders the empty space or the stale link and sends. In a small, stable catalog you’d notice, because you know your fifty products. Across ten thousand SKUs turning over constantly, you have no way to spot it by eye. The flow looks healthy in the dashboard — good delivery, decent opens — while it quietly ships broken messages to a slice of every send.

That’s the case for auditing as a routine, not a one-off. Set-and-forget is a fine idea for the trigger logic. It’s a bad idea for anything that touches live catalog data.

Why “the flow is still sending” isn’t proof it’s fine

Most owners check automation the way they check a light switch: is it on? Delivery rate healthy, opens normal, revenue still trickling in — must be working. Those top-line numbers are exactly the ones that stay green while the content underneath decays.

Delivery tells you the email left the building. Opens tell you the subject line and sender still work. Neither one looks at what rendered inside the email, and rendering is where a fast catalog does its damage. A flow can post a totally normal open rate while a fifth of its product blocks point at dead pages. Worse, the revenue drop from those broken sends is gradual and easy to blame on “the market” or “seasonality.” You need to inspect the message body and the destination — the send stats alone won’t reveal it — and that inspection has to repeat, because tomorrow’s catalog is different again.

The four layers to audit, in order

Work from the source outward. A problem in an early layer creates symptoms in every layer after it, so fixing in order saves you chasing ghosts.

Layer 1 — The data feeding the messages

Everything a dynamic email shows comes from your product feed and customer data. If the feed is wrong, no amount of template polish saves you. Check that products have correct current prices, valid image URLs, real titles, and accurate availability, and that the fields your emails actually reference are populated. Two specific rot points deserve their own attention: overall feed hygiene, covered in how to keep product feeds clean enough for reliable recommendations, and the messy-metadata problem of titles and images that don’t match, covered in what to do when product titles and images are inconsistent.

Layer 2 — The exclusion and availability rules

Given clean data, the next question is whether your flows are correctly filtering it. Stock changes fastest of all, so it’s the first filter to verify: confirm that out-of-stock items genuinely can’t appear in any dynamic block. The mechanics are their own topic — how to prevent out-of-stock products from appearing in automated messages — and in a catalog where availability moves daily, the broader problem of what to do when product availability changes every day sits right behind it. Then check the rest of your exclusions: discontinued lines, below-margin items, restricted categories, clearance you’re phasing out. Large catalogs need more of these than owners expect, which is why large catalog stores need stronger exclusion rules.

Layer 3 — The rendered content and control

Now look at what actually ships. Trigger test sends into a few real customer profiles and open them on a phone. Do the product blocks fill correctly? Do fallbacks fire when data is thin, or do you see blank slots and raw field code? Do long titles and mismatched images break the layout? This is the control question — whether your dynamic content still does what you told it to — and it has a full treatment in using dynamic content without losing control of the message.

Layer 4 — The numbers that expose silent failure

Finally, read the metrics that top-line stats hide. The point here is measuring content quality rather than send volume — the same discipline as measuring recommendation quality across thousands of products.

A practical audit routine you’ll actually run

The reason audits don’t happen is that they sound like a project. Make them a habit instead by splitting the work.

Weekly (15 minutes):
– Send a test through your 3–4 highest-volume flows into real customer profiles; open each on your phone.
– Scan for blank blocks, raw tokens ({{ ... }} showing as text), broken images, and any obviously dead product.
– Click every product link in the test send and confirm it lands on a live, in-stock page.
– Glance at the fallback rate — how often the flow showed its backup content instead of true personalization.

Monthly (60–90 minutes):
– Re-verify exclusion rules against the current catalog: stock, discontinued, margin floor, restricted categories.
– Compare revenue per recipient and click-through per flow against last month; investigate any flow that dropped without an obvious cause.
– Check dead-click and bounce-to-404 rates as a share of clicks.
– Review whether any category restructures or seasonal changes broke a flow’s assumptions.

After any big catalog event — a seasonal changeover, a bulk discontinuation, a category reorganization, a supplier swap — run the monthly audit early. Those are the moments flows silently break.

A store example

A 12,000-SKU apparel store runs a browse-abandonment flow built in spring. By midsummer, opens still read 40%+ and the dashboard looks fine. A weekly test send tells a different story: of three “recently viewed” products in the block, one is a discontinued spring jacket linking to a 404, one is out of stock in every size, and only one is live. The fallback never fired because the block found “enough” products to fill — it just didn’t check whether they were any good.

The fix took an afternoon: add a stock-and-status filter to the block, tighten the fallback to require live products, and re-test. No new tool, no rebuild. The flow had been leaking clicks to dead pages for weeks, and only a routine audit surfaced it — the numbers alone would have kept looking green.

The metrics that matter for an audit

When you audit, track the signals that reveal content decay rather than send health:

  • Fallback rate — rising means your data or filters are starving the personalization.
  • Dead-click / 404 rate — clicks landing on missing or out-of-stock pages; the clearest sign of catalog rot reaching customers.
  • Revenue per recipient per flow, trended — a slow slide with steady opens points at content, not audience.
  • Click-to-open rate — separates “the subject worked” from “the body worked.”
  • Complaint or reply signals — rare mentions of broken emails, each standing in for many silent impressions.

How Omnisend helps

An audit is easier when the tool surfaces the right data and lets you fix issues without a rebuild. I use Omnisend in my own stores, chosen over Klaviyo after testing both, and for auditing the useful parts are per-flow analytics down to revenue per recipient, dynamic content filters you can adjust on stock and product fields without touching the template, and test-send previews into real profiles so you can see the rendered version a customer would get. Adjusting a stuck exclusion filter and re-testing is a few minutes of work, not a support ticket.

The honest limit: a tool reports what’s happening and applies the rules you set, but it won’t tell you a flow’s assumptions went stale after a category reshuffle, and it can’t judge whether a rendered email is on-brand. The audit is human work; the tool just makes it fast. Omnisend is an affiliate partner of Shopimation; I recommend it from daily use, and the free tier is enough to run test sends and read per-flow numbers on a small catalog.

Your next step

Block 15 minutes this week and audit only your single highest-volume flow: test-send it, open it on your phone, and click every product link. If even one lands on a dead or out-of-stock page, you’ve found live money leaking — and you now know the routine that catches it. From there, the upstream fix that pays back most is usually the feed itself: start with how to keep product feeds clean enough for reliable recommendations.
