Der aggregierte Umsatz verbirgt alles, was zählt.

Durchgang 1: Inventar — alles auflisten, was aktiv ist

Klicken Sie jeden Link an. Testen Sie jeden Rabattcode.

Kako pregledati Shopify email avtomatizacije

Zgradite pozdravni tok, deluje, greste naprej.

Preizkusite ga. Dodajte izdelek v košarico in jo opustite; naročite se s testnim emailom.
  • Povezave in kode so žive. Kliknite vsako povezavo.

Predelan primer

Lastnica trgovine izvede pregled in najde pet živih tokov.

Kaj meriti in kako pogosto

  • Stopnja konverzije — koliko prejemnikov dejansko kupi.

How to Audit Shopify Email Automations

An audit of your Shopify email automations is a structured walk through every live flow to answer one question per flow: is it firing correctly, is it relevant, and is it actually making money? You do it in four passes — inventory what exists, confirm each flow triggers and exits cleanly, judge the content and timing, then read the revenue per flow and cut or fix the dead weight. Most stores that have been running automations for a year or two are sitting on at least one flow that’s broken, duplicated, or quietly annoying customers, and they don’t know it because nobody ever went back to look. This is how you look, in an afternoon.

Why flows rot even when nothing “breaks”

Automations are set-and-forget by design, and that’s exactly the problem. You build a welcome flow, it works, you move on. Eighteen months later the discount code in it expired, the hero product is discontinued, and the copy references a sale that ended last spring — but it’s still sending, every day, to every new subscriber.

Nothing threw an error. That’s what makes it dangerous. A campaign that fails is obvious; a flow that slowly drifts out of date is invisible until you go looking. I’ve opened flows in my own stores and found a “welcome, here’s 10% off” email pointing at a code I’d deactivated months earlier, meaning every new subscriber got a broken promise as their first impression. No alert fired. It just leaked goodwill, silently, for a long time.

Why “the numbers look fine” isn’t an audit

The tempting shortcut is to glance at total email revenue, see it’s up, and assume the machine is healthy. Aggregate revenue hides everything that matters.

Your top flow can be crushing it while three others do nothing — or actively harm you — and the total still looks green. Worse, high-level numbers won’t show you a customer getting two cart-recovery emails from two overlapping flows, or a win-back sending to people who bought last week because the exit condition is wrong. Those failures don’t dent the topline enough to notice. They show up as unsubscribes, spam complaints, and a slow erosion of trust that eventually drags your whole list’s deliverability down. An audit looks flow by flow, on purpose, because that’s the only level at which these problems are visible.

The four-pass audit

Pass 1: Inventory — list everything that’s live

You can’t audit what you haven’t listed. Open your email tool and write down every active automation, its trigger, and when you last touched it. For most Shopify stores the core set is welcome, abandoned cart, abandoned checkout, browse abandonment, post-purchase, and win-back. If you’re not sure which you should have, check against what email automations a new Shopify store should create first.

While you list them, flag two things immediately: any flow you don’t remember building, and any flow marked live that you can’t explain the purpose of. Those go to the top of the review pile.

Pass 2: Plumbing — does each flow fire and exit correctly?

This is the mechanical pass, and it catches the ugliest bugs. For each flow, confirm four things:

  • The trigger fires. Test it. Add a product to cart and abandon it; subscribe with a test email. Watch the flow actually start.
  • The exit conditions work. A cart flow must stop the moment the person buys. A win-back must not send to someone who just ordered. Broken exits are how customers get emails that make you look like you’re not paying attention.
  • Links and codes are alive. Click every link. Test every discount code. This is where expired codes and dead product pages hide.
  • No two flows overlap. The classic collision is a customer abandoning a cart and getting recovery messages from two flows at once. If you run both cart and checkout recovery, confirm they don’t double up — the fix is in how to prevent duplicate Shopify cart recovery messages.

Before you trust any of this pass, make sure your tracking itself is honest — a flow that looks dead might just be misreporting. If revenue numbers seem impossible, run troubleshooting Shopify email tracking first, then come back.

Pass 3: Relevance — read the emails as a customer

Now the judgment pass. Actually read each email, out loud, as if you were the recipient. Ask:

Is the timing right — does the cart email arrive within an hour or two while intent is warm, not the next day? Does the content still match what you sell and how you talk? Is there one clear action per email, or six competing buttons? Does the win-back open with a guilt trip? Does the post-purchase try to upsell before the first order has even shipped?

Score each flow simply: keep, fix, or kill. Be honest about kill. A flow that sends generic filler to justify its existence is worse than no flow, because it costs you list health for nothing.

Pass 4: Money — revenue per flow, not in total

Finally, the numbers — but at flow level. For each automation, look at revenue per recipient and conversion rate, not just total revenue. This tells you which flows earn their place and which are coasting.

Expect a lopsided result. In most stores the abandoned cart and welcome flows carry the bulk of automated revenue, while others contribute modestly. That’s normal. What you’re hunting for is the flow that sends heavily and returns almost nothing — that’s either a content problem to fix or a flow to retire. Read revenue consistently from one source; if your figures don’t reconcile, that’s a tracking issue, not a flow issue.

A worked example

A store owner runs the audit and finds five live flows. Inventory turns up a sixth she’d forgotten — an old “review request” flow. Plumbing pass: the win-back has a broken exit and has been emailing recent buyers “we miss you” for months. Relevance pass: the welcome flow’s discount code expired in the spring. Money pass: the forgotten review flow sends to everyone but converts on nothing because it fires two days after purchase, before anything arrives.

Four real problems, none of which showed up in total revenue, all found in one afternoon. She fixes the win-back exit, refreshes the welcome code, delays the review flow to fourteen days, and kills nothing outright — because now each flow has a clear job. That’s a successful audit.

What to measure, and how often

Track these per flow so the next audit is faster:

  • Revenue per recipient — the single best “does this flow deserve to exist” number.
  • Conversion rate — how many recipients actually buy.
  • Unsubscribe and spam-complaint rate — a spike flags a flow that’s annoying, not helping.
  • Trigger volume — a sudden drop means the flow or your store connection broke.

Run a full audit roughly twice a year, and a quick plumbing check any time you change your product range, your discount strategy, or your app stack. Anything that changes your store can quietly break a flow that references it.

How Omnisend makes the audit easier

The reason this audit is a manageable afternoon in my own stores is that Omnisend lays the flows out visually with per-flow reporting attached, so inventory and the money pass happen almost together — I can see each automation, its trigger, and what it earned in one place. Testing triggers and exits is a matter of running a contact through and watching the path. After testing it against Klaviyo, that legibility is a big part of why I stayed.

What no tool does for you is the relevance pass. Software will tell you a flow sends and earns; only you can read the email and notice it opens with a guilt trip or points at a discontinued product. Omnisend is an affiliate partner of Shopimation; I recommend it from running exactly this audit on my own account more than once.

Your next step

Block ninety minutes this week and do Pass 1 and Pass 2 — inventory every live flow and test that each one fires and exits correctly. That alone usually surfaces the worst problem in the account. Then, if the audit shows your flows are healthy but under-earning, the fix is often better retention logic; how to increase Shopify repeat purchases with automation is the next place to look.
